Knee pain? Understand the symptoms, causes, and treatments

Knee pain is a common musculoskeletal problem in humans that affect after reaching some specific age of their life. Most of the people experience knee problem, in the middle of their lives. It may be caused by the sudden injuries such as while playing sports, exercise, or other recreational activities. The joint of a knee is the largest joint in your body.  Medical conditions like arthritis, gout, and infections are also caused knee pain. But often it can be treated at your home or it may get better on its own.
Some risk factors for Knee pain:
The most common cause of knee problem is the injury. Sudden injuries like twisting, bending or falling on the knee can develop extreme pain and also swelling within a minute. Acute or sudden injury can damage your blood vessels or nerves. It causes the knee to feel numb, weak, or look blue or pale. The injury feels when you do a repetitive activity or the longtime pressure on the knee is known as Overuse Injury. Overuse injuries may be caused by Prolong jumping, jogging, riding, and climbing. That can create serious problems for knee pain.
Excess weight can also increase the risk of knee pain. It may affect your body during ordinary activities like walking, going up or downstairs.
Some popular sports such as football, cricket, and hockey etc. puts pressure on the knee. It may lead extreme knee pain or leg pain.
Common Signs and symptoms of Knee pain:     
•             Swelling and stiffness
•             Crunching noises in knee
•             Inability to fully straighten the knee.

Treatment of Knee pain:
Avoid hot showers, hot tubs, hot packs, or alcoholic drinks for first 48 hours after injury. To avoid more damage get back in daily routine as early as possible, start doing gentle exercise to restore and maintain our flexibility. Use RICE technique as a First-Aid to reduce extreme knee pain.
·         Rest:  Stop or take a break from the activities that may be causing knee pain. Rest is the best option for the quick recovery or healing process of injury. Place a small pillow under the knee while taking the rest.
·         Ice: Ice helps to reduce pain and swelling around the damaged area. To prevent extreme pain and swelling apply ice immediately for 10 to 20 minutes.
·         Compression: Compression helps to reduce swelling. After injury wrapping an elastic bandage around the damaged area can prevent the swelling and gives relief from extreme pain.

·         Elevation: Elevation process can also help to reduce the swelling. Elevate your injured knee on pillows and try to keep your damaged area at heart level to prevent the swelling problem.
